1/ The Blockworks story reflects what many newsrooms are experiencing: pressure on the old model and realignment toward new value forms. Journalism isn’t dead, but the commercial logic for general news is (as everyone knows) weakening and has been for some time.
2/ The old business model was built on a bundle: news, features, ads, and classifieds, all wrapped together. The internet unbundled all that. The ad dollars and the distribution shifted. We’re continuing to see the implications of this play out across legacy and internet-native outlets alike.
