Thinking out loud:

I'm trying to monetize TrustMRR beyond just using ads.

The platform has $1.2 billion of verified startup revenue, and processes $500,000 worth of transactions per day.

There might be value somewhere for someone? Meeting a cofounder, posting job offers, showcasing emerging startups, etc.

I'm struggling because I don't know which feature to build, so I created a paywall and will let the market decide. After the checkout, customers can request features, and I'll build them.

Suggestions are welcome!

We like to think the first world is low-corruption and low-crime, but it isn't really, it's just our corruption is wholesale not retail and our crime is white-collar not blue-collar. In this case, a maker of firefighting gear is effectively mugging every resident of every new apartment building in several states, which we'd sit up and pay attention to if it happened in the streets instead of in meetings about some boring regulation.

Once I noticed this dynamic, the polished facades of the urbanized world started to look uglier and uglier to me:

* Every official enforcing the law can be totally nice and helpful and honest, yet still be collecting money for a very sophisticated form of organized crime

* Real products are being made and sold. They're shiny and high-tech and make it look like we get to have nice things, but are somewhere between useless and extremely wasteful (or even life-destroying, see OxyContin)

* An increasing share of our wealth is diverted into large-scale, centralized, highly regulated operations where the graft and waste can be hidden deep in the machinery. Everything must be big and boring or this doesn't work

* The built environment starts to look more and more like the airport and less and less like the kind of place I'd like to fly to: full of food, decorations, handicrafts, and structures dreamed up by creative citizens instead of labs, committees, and celebs

But what to do about it? Ranting angrily about this sort of thing will make you sound like an obsessed nutcase who also wants to let firefighters and babies die. The best I've come up with is to notice that this system has a distinctive aesthetic, and to avoid this aesthetic whenever I have a choice, and try my best to direct my labor and money to people and activities that create real value
