2/2 In college I used a Xerox Star to prepare lab reports for chemistry when everyone else used a typewriter and organic stencils to draw compounds. My Prof was super impressed…to a point. "Incredible lab report…looks camera ready for a journal…content is crap. See me."

When laser printers arrived there was a brief moment when using one made your work "extra". You literally got better results—papers, resumes. Then everyone used one and all work was just better. Laser was no longer a competitive advantage. A lesson about tech diffusion. 1/2
