Despite the meteoric progress in AI, when I look around day to day life and how we do things, there is very little change outside of coding and chat apps. I still can’t find restaurants by describing it to Google Maps or discover new music by talking to Spotify or have AI find me cool places in AirBnB/Expedia. My dentist website is still as dumb as it possible can be. Even Amazon hasn’t yet gotten around to put AI front and center to shoppers (rufus is aweful if you can find it). Customer support was supposed to first to succumb but during 2025 about half dozen customer support calls I made, I still waited in “line” every single one of them for a human to respond. Every single speech recognition there seem to be from decade ago. It will be 3 years in and vast majority of software in the world is pretty much exactly the same it was 3 years ago. Despite 100s of startups funded during past couple of years, I have no AI-first app that I use regularly other than ChatGPT and the likes. This is quite unlike Internet revolution where every business considered it to be existential risk and jumped into create their Internet-first version almost right away. On one hand this indicates massive opportunity yet to materialize indicating that valuations of frontier labs is still just the tip of the iceberg. On other hand, it remains absolutely bewildering why almost none of the big or small players have moved their apps becoming AI first citizen yet or why none of the AI-first startups have managed to disrupt them. There are some pockets of successes for sure but why isn’t there a tsunami like we saw during Internet revolution?
