Computers now feel like archaic dead husks before I set up a LLM CLI to bootstrap the system for me. Feels the same how a computer used to feel before you had an OS on it, but closer to waking it up than turning it on. It’s so weird

(it gets more fun than this, because it seems like there were several other distinct sources of music from an evolutionary pov, even if some more cultural (e.g. work songs), storytelling and ceremonial sources pave a lot of the foundation too and help us see why its so universal)

One this matures, someone should set up a portal rendezvous server for really large distributed world creation ...

a real joy of modern music imo is that it isn't just the above source of rhythm and coordination on the group level, but that this has also been merged with strong honest signaling for sexual selection which helped bring about singing and melody. so when you combine them you can-

recovering bodies of loved ones was extremely important from a game theoretic view; if a predator fought a group of humans and killed one, you have to bring the deceased back so that the predator gets no reward for the kill, eventually realizing humans (in groups) aren't worth it

this is likely one of the reasons certain types of music were invented: to further the above goal, groups of humans want to both act *and be seen by predators* as a single synchronized organism. intimidation and induction of battle trance as well, but this *fully* plays the part
