I would say there is no such thing as "universal" intelligence but there is definitely such a thing as "general" intelligence, and as a collective, we have it. "Science", modeled as an intelligent system (primarily powered by human intelligence) can solve any solvable problem in our universe, given appropriate resources.
It's not like evolution hardcoded us to be able to perform specific tasks (like, say, bipedal walking), and we can only handle those tasks. Individually, we can handle an extremely broad range of tasks far outside what our evolutionary ancestors had to face. As a collective and with the aid of externalized cognitive infrastructure, we can solve essentially *any* problem that is of relevance to us.

My favorite uncle was a Catholic priest and paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, one of the first Catholic Army Chaplains on the ground in Vietnam. He did several tours, never really talked about it until the end of his life a few years ago because he saw the depths of hell. He went because he was a tough guy, “if not me, then who?” and always said “if there’s ever a time when men need a priest, it’s during war.” For his funeral, his youngest brother had this painting commissioned from a photo that appeared of my uncle in the associated press giving a soldier the Last Rites. The Chaplain Corps is a sacred and difficult calling. It needs to become serious again, because war is serious. This change is long overdue.
Fwiw, there are few things I carry with me in my purse no matter where I go. His funeral Mass card is one of them. A reminder to live a serious life.
