Let me ''steelman'' this, as they say. I think a lot of people believe a version of this argument that is too strong. But I think there are many other versions of it which are basically right.
What does it mean to "generate knowledge", say of a true-but-unknown proposition P? I think it means that there exists a context proposition C which elicits from the LLM an "argument" A which is true and implies P. If it does this then it has generated knowledge of P.
