i’ve been thinking about why writing matters.

that is, why it matters not just for writers, but for anyone trying to make sense of the world.

technology may change how we communicate, but writing continues to have an outsized impact on how we think, what we do, and who we are.

i'll be posting one idea on this theme each day this week... why write?

1. write to think writing forces clarity. most of what we call thinking is just a nebulous haze of impressions: half-baked ideas, borrowed takes, insta 'feels'. often when you try to put what you're thinking into words you realize...you don’t know what you think. writing slows your thought processes down enough to consider them carefully, to see things clearly. it shows you where you’re fooling yourself, the inconsistencies, the gaps, the holes. writing is an x-ray machine. it enables you to see inside yourself and learn what you really think... including whether what you thought you believed holds up. it's uncomfortable! writing is pain! but over time, it changes you brain chemistry, strengthens your mind, and makes you a more rigorous thinker. if you want to think better, write more.

When the cofounder of the company that acquired you nearly 5 years ago — which you still work with — still only has positive things to say…

That’s all you need to know.

The CMO too. These are not people who find themselves in drama. They wouldn’t be sticking their neck out unless they feel like a wrong needs to be righted.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw similar/identical thinking and performance between VL and 3-Max, but at least now they have clearly different thinking. It must be on.

We're in a race. It's not USA vs China but humans and AGIs vs ape power centralization. @deepseek_ai stan #1, 2023–Deep Time «C’est la guerre.» ®1
