For the POLAR DERIVATIVES exhibition today I'm trying out something new:

🐻❄️ "Polina" – a polar bear in polar coordinates – is a 1/1.

🖨️ But if you want, you can pick up a low-cost QEDitioned "print" instead (ed/42).

The way this works is that the edition reads Polina's (fully onchain) metadata, and renders a displayed version with a border and other structure indicating the print's relationship to the original. If the original is updated for whatever reason, the prints inherit those updates automatically.

This is a first pilot of a new primitive I'm working on to try and solve a market design puzzle in NFT art space. I'll explain the idea in more detail as I develop it, but in short:

🖼️ In the outside world, it's common for artists to produce prints and other first-party derivatives of their existing works – think anything from high-end lithographs to postcards and mugs.

🖥️ By contrast in NFT-space, we've sort of ended up in a di.5-chotomy: 1/1 works and art editions, all of which typically constitute "originals" (albeit sometimes with different prices and target audiences); and then "derivatives" often created by third parties (and possibly competing with the originals).

I'm thinking of the "inherited metadata" paradigm for digital prints as a potential mechanism for artists to produce works that can complement their originals in a nondilutive way: expanding enjoyment of the artwork, and giving people a way to express and publicly signify their appreciation even when they can't afford their favorite 1/1 – while clearly establishing hierarchy and separation relative to the original.

The metadata being "printed" is currently rendered client-side via JavaScript, but I'm investigating ways to integrate that into the smart contract call. Please let me know your thoughts on the approach – if people like it and I can make the process smooth, I might try to protocolize it for broader use.

And in the meantime, if you'd like to collect a polar bear: 36 prints are available for .01 ETH each; and the original is listed for .42 (because polar bears have 42 teeth). Links below 👇👀

& thanks so much to @COMPUTERBLOOD for including me in the exhibition, and to @ripcache and @ZDestories for comments on the print concept.

QED 🙏🐻❄️

But overall creatine is extremely well researched over long time frames, cheap, and readily available. If you take one supplement, make it creatine.
