an interesting result that doesn’t surprised me at all: dropping memorization affects significantly math results. from what I’ve seen, similarly to humans, models need to memorize standard operations with small numbers.

this dredged up an old memory. Back when I was learning web development, I decided to crank out websites to cut my teeth and speed up my learning curve. But I had a prob - I didn't know what to build. Since I went to Ole Miss, I decided to treat this like the board game Monopoly, and buy .com domain landmarks around Oxford, Miss & build on those. I bought RowanOak․com (Faulkner's home & tourist destination); I bought VaughtHemingway․com (football stadium); and I also bought TadSmithColiseum․com (our bball venue). On TadSmith, I added a seating map, history of the bldg, and other info for visitors. Folks found the seating map helpful (it had views of the court); other sites began linking us; then it started to rank in Goog and drove seasonal traffic during bball season. Several yrs later the Univ built a new stadium & the team moved there, and the traffic tailed off. My time had moved over to onions & ranching also. So when the domain renewal came due, I let it lapse and let the old girl go.

What Sarah Friar saw was that OpenAI’s borrowing is unsustainable without a government backstop. Don’t let the backtracking obscure that.
