this is true. The current Western credentialism is also something they've been doing for a while. It's not all good, but imo it makes sense to think of Chinese as "people who've been evolving under conditions of large scale civilization for longer".

I used to look down on Confucianism in comparison to fancier Eastern schools of thought. Then I understood that running a civilization is the most serious business there is, and no fancy preening intellectualism can provide a framework for that. Yeah. Teacher had a point.
