India hasn't even published 0.1 papers per million population at the Neurips conference (that would have been 140, didn't see that many). It is something like 0.01 per million (correct me if my stats are wrong).
That mean Singapore publishes 6400 times more papers per capita, USA publishes at least 750 times more AI papers per capita. India's underperformance is outrageous.
My numbers may be bit off, but they are within the right ball park/order of magnitude.
Score board is out, and it is close to ZERO.
British are gone for 75 years. Nehru is gone for 60 years at least. Stop blaming them.
The buck stops with current education minister, AI minister (who always stays in the limelight) and deans/heads of all the IITs.
Sorry, but not sorry, for hurting your feeling. The country matters more, much more than anyone's fragile ego. I am sure you are better than that.
For this sort of under performance heads roll in the corporate world.
At the minimum there has to be plan for change of situation in next 3 years, with goals for first, second and third year. There has to be a PMO level meeting where leaders of IITs are held answerable. If they need funding, they should spell it out. This can not continue...
2047 vision is a lie, if you do not have intermediate goals.
Please retweet if you agree. Don't just like it.
