DeepSeek adopts interleaved tool calling that has been adopted by Claude, MiniMax and Kimi and also GPT5. That is model 'thinks' before tool calls. If past tool calls didn't result in proper output, it can introspect and change strategy. This will standardize it for hosting providers and avoid sh*t shows we are witnessing with APIs. This will also help hosting providers implement uniform caching. Alsom pretty good tool calling performance for a model that you can simply download from huggingface.
