more seriously reminds me of that very brief period of time (2018ish) where javascript was presented as the next language of data science. fortunately ai boom derailed it.

Great post by the @wapo editorial board on the failure of the ACA and our health system more generally. ACA proved that small, selective risk pools are simply unaffordable. If we are at all serious about health care costs, subsidies will not work without fundamental reform: divorce health care coverage from employers; enable lifetime portability of insurance for consumers; and create incentives for consumers to manage costs through price transparency and accountability. We need to stop artificially segmenting risk pools that are in effect uninsurable and allow the free market to work. Sure, there is some level of income below which the government will need to subsidize the free market, but we have to stop divorcing the subsidy conversation from the reform conversation.
