I didn't know this detail. Sino-Vietnamese War is often counted as «Chinese defeat», but like with Winter War (which went… poorly for the USSR), the real story starts after. Apparently Vietnam could not sustain defense spending to deter Round 2, and committed to Not Be A Problem
