The leader of the NDP at the time, Jagmeet Singh, chastised people protesting Shen's death. Calling their demands for justice, coded racism. All because the murderer was a recent Syrian refugee. The Shen family endured years of lawfare & had to sit through the defense council for Ibrahim Ali suggesting Marrisa Shen wanted to hook up with Ali, despite there being zero evidence the two had ever met. Ali was finally convicted of his crime but the damage to the community & the Shen family, will last for at least a generation.
