I'm going to tell you a story for those of you who don't know much about Madrid or the relationship between anti-fascist activism and the @PSOE and the institutions. In a few days it will be 16 years since our anti-fascist comrade Carlos was murdered by a neo-Nazi in the Legazpi metro.
The events took place on the fateful 11/11/07 on the occasion of a racist call by the fascist organization National Democracy, which intended to go to the Usera neighborhood (one of the most multicultural) to sow terror and spread its xenophobic message.
This Nazi rally was authorized by the Government Delegate Soledad Mestre of the @PSOE, who thought it appropriate to allow fascists to roam freely through working-class neighborhoods, intimidating the residents.
At that time, just as is happening today with the genocide in Palestine, the @PSOE stood out for its tolerance and permissiveness towards fascist organizations, as well as for its brutality against social movements and anti-fascist youth.
Since the super-democratic-death party of the @PSOE was not going to prevent the increase in the fascist presence in our streets, nor to protect those who suffered the abuses of these evil beings, the people had to take the initiative.
It was a time when racist attacks, attacks against the LGBTI community, against homeless people, etc., were constant. (I'm leaving you a list that includes some of the fascist attacks/murders since the transition) https://t.co/PbE4QVT56L
Part of that initiative involved organizing a demonstration on the same day in Usera to prevent the fascist presence in our streets and to express our rejection of their genocidal ideology. It is then, on the way to the demonstration, that the soldier (surprise, surprise) and neo-Nazi
Josué Estébanez de la Hija murdered Carlos when he was only 16 years old. The @PSOE, as if their responsibility for Carlos's murder wasn't enough, decided to ban the anti-fascist demonstration (THIS ONE) in response to the murder.
So we move on to the next chapter. TIRSO DE MOLINA, 2008. Once again, the @PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) allows a fascist event in the symbolic Tirso de Molina square, and once again, Madrid's antifascists have to confront fascism.
And what happens? Well, the @PSOE police once again protect the Nazis and brutal attacks are carried out against anti-fascist youth. https://t.co/ZqclRxeFwX
And we have the following gem from Soledad Mestre (@PSOE) when she authorizes, two years after the murder of the young man from Vallecas, Carlos Palomino, a neo-Nazi demonstration by the Socialist Patriotic Movement (MPS) that passes through VK.
Once again, anti-fascist youth stand up to the Nazis and defend the memory of their recently murdered comrade. So, once again, 25 anti-fascists are arrested and met with force.
So, antifascists in Madrid have decided to occupy the headquarters of the @PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) after years of permissiveness towards fascism, as well as the criminalyoutu.be/dzE8v9FQdkQ?fe… of antifascism. https://t.co/JIsiQpaRA3
But what's most representative of how the @PSOE operates is the "we're in a democracy" moment. They have the nerve to tell those young people—the ones who saw their friend murdered, persecuted and criminalized for standing up to fascism—that WE ARE IN A DEMOCRACY.
I have told this story, of the most horrible and saddest years in Madrid for many good people, because we cannot forget that the institution NEVER saved us from anything and it will be no different now.
They talk a big game about democracy, even about anti-fascism and historical memory, when they have been feeding the beast for decades. So you know, you cowardly rats, he who sows the wind... Now go fuck yourselves.
This year we take to the streets of Madrid again for #Carlos and for all our murdered comrades. To show that this city will remain #antifascist despite its institutions and political parties. To recognize the courage of the generations that came before us. We owe you everything ♥️
@Carlos16vive
We'll be waiting for you in the streets ♥️✊
