1. Godzilla (1998). It's an understatement to say this film is important to who I am as a person. Ever since I've seen this giant stalk the New York City streets, I've been hooked on giant monsters since. A personal favorite of mine to this day.
2. This is going to be very broad but I have to go with all the Godzilla roars. One of the most iconic sound effects in film histroy and I'd find it hard to find anything that tops it.
3. This might be a controversial take for some but I would have to go with Godzilla vs. Kong. There are some spectacular action sequences, and the theme that plays with the opening credits kicks ass, but the rest of the film felt very underwhelming, especially the human cast.
4. I mean, Kaneko's Gamera trilogy is the way to go, but if I had to pick just one out of the three, I'd go with Revenge of Iris. Absolute top tier kaiju eiga, with effects that still top a majority of the genre even years later.
5. Even back in the day, I wasn't all that familiar with Power Rangers (to say nothing of Super Sentai) outside of the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger movie and Turbo, so I honestly can't answer this one.
6. I've only watched SSSS Gridman, so I'm not familiar with all the kaiju, but I like Ghoulgilas, reminds me quite a bit of some of the early concpets for Spacegodzilla and Orga, but the design is a standout on it's own.
7. It would still have to be Godzilla, specifically his appearance in the 2014 film. I think they really hit the nail on the head when it came to having a grounded and new design that aligns perfectly with the traditional Godzilla look.
I know it's cheating, but I can't just pick one. This was the era I grew up with, so I'll wholly admit my bias.
9. 9. Now this is a really hard one, there so many amazing people who do both official and fan art. Here's a few that standout for me though: Yuji Murakami Yuji Kaida Noriyoshi Ohrai Matt Allsopp
10. I've only made it up to Leo so far, so I'm sure there are some phenomenal series awaiting me, but I'll go with Ultraseven for now.
11. There are some pretty good one's out there, but the North American releases art is just so iconic to me. A masterpiece.
12. It's a wild one I know but Yongary vs. Godzilla. Using an updated design or the previous two, I'd think it would be pretty cool to have Yongary make a return, hopefully in a decent film this time. Have the King of the Monsters face one of his imitators.
13. Again, I'd say the Heisei trilogy has the best suits of the series, but out of all of them the look from Revenge of Iris stands out to me. Kinda edgy but freaking badass all the same.
14. It'll always be Knifehead for me.
15. In style and playability, it's War of the Monsters everytime. A freaking fun game that's simple to play and a loving homage to many of my favorite vintage scifi/monster films.
16. If I had to go with just one, it'll probably be MFS-3 Kiryu. An iconic look for Mechagodzilla to me.
17. Damn almost forgot about this, but my answer is easily Barugon. Just a really fun and unique kaiju. Art by @D0PEP0PE
18. I would say Godzilla's atomic breath, but that's too easy. I'll say Kiryu's maser beams.
19. There's still ALOT for me to get to in terms of Ultraman, so I don't have the lagest sample size, but I really like Alien Baltan.
20. This guy has been with me since the beginning of my becoming a Godzilla fan. From what my mom tells me, a relative had this, and when we were visiting I was immediately drawn to it and wanted it. He was kind enough to let me keep him, and it's a personal treasure of mine.
21. Don't know how many times I'll go back to this film, but the final battle from Gamera 3. Everything from the buildup, score, and top notch special effects, I think it's one of the best of the genre. Ever.
22. Oh, this is a hard one, there's quite a few to choose from. I'll have to go with Godzilla's Manhattan landfall in G98. This was the scene that changed it all for me.
23. There are quite a few mediocre giant monster flicks out there, but Pacific Rim Uprising would be my choice here. A huge downgrade from the first film imo, so much that I've only seen the film like twice and haven't gone back to it since.
24. Objectively one of the most important figures in Godzilla's creation and legacy, Ishiro Honda.
25. An odd choice for some but some Gamera kaiju in an episode of Franklin. Learning about it all these years later I thought it was a cute nod.
26. Another tough one, there's plenty of creatures I love outside of Japanese kaiju eiga, but I think Clover brings over the same sensibilities really well, so I'll choose it. Plus the design is top notch.
27. A day late but whatever. Haven't actually watched the series but the opening to Ginga is a pure banger.
28. One of the figures I've always wanted is the Trendmasters Ultimate Godzilla. An obvious choice for me since I'm a diehard fan of this design.
29. Shin Godzilla is a masterpiece. Not only a great kaiju film but a great film in general. Still my favorite film from the ongoing kaiju renaissance .
30. Easily her appearance in Tokyo SOS. She's brought to life in a way I think excells above most of the previous attempts. Really makes for some great action, and her presence reflects the divine nature of the kaiju really well.
31. Honestly, this is one of my personal favorites. I REALLY want to see this used in the future. A perfect update of the classic Toho designs while taking elements of Legendary's Godzilla.
