brilliant RTS idea: an RTS game where instead of health bars, units have a survivability onion
i know this sounds like a shitpost but i’m serious! say you have a unit and it’s onion is Stealth/Speed/Armour/Health, and it’s offensive stats are Sight/Tracking/Penetration/Damage only Damage->Health is traditional
when two units get near each other, both start to strip away each other’s Stealth with their Awareness. Infantry have high Stealth and tanks have low Awareness, so infantry counter tanks because it takes a long time for tanks to become aware… which is why you escort tanks
then speed drains from tracking. speed can be a dynamic onion, filling in when moving and draining while being aimed at. it still stacks with many units, so a jet can slip one anti air gun but not three
then armour against gun is just a check if you take reduced damage. infantry who dig in or have cover just gain an armour layer
THEN damage happens no idea how this would feel in practice but i think it’s cool
