“I’ve spent a decade at the intersection of geopolitics, economics & tech.”
The way LLM wordcelism is perfectly indistinguishable from confident Indian bullshitting needs to be studied. It's uncanny. I think she legit typed it all out. Was there some foundational RLHF dataset?

That is very sad, @swyx :(

Programming is the art of / clearest form of thinking.

Yes, people have gotten mistaken impression that they don't need to learning programming.

Young engineers:
That said, I am very optimistic about Singapore. The quality of people we interview is going up, and AI has a huge role to play. There are many great self taught young software engineers.

Recently I was judging a pan ASEAN AI competition organised by AI Singapore.

The quality of solutions was outstanding.
Younger generation has become far more courageous to try out new ideas, as they are being helped by AI.

Local AI talent:
NUS, NTU have some fantastic researcher. Multiple frontier labs are setting up their base in Singapore (you will know in coming days). Lot of corporate labs are also coming.

Moreover, many talented scientist from GCR are migrating to Singapore. China is out producing AI scientist compared to the rest of the world and many of them will make Singapore their home. This trend is only growing.

(Some of the key folks across most Chinese leading labs are based in Singapore, or have worked with NUS/NTU)

In fact, one of the reasons frontier and corporate labs are coming to Singapore is because of ability to hire not just from NTU/NUS, but also (mainly) from GCR region. Top talent costs 25-33% of what it costs in bay area.

So not all is lost, there is great hope.

That said, Singapore is still missing the startup DNA.

It is not high status in Singapore to be solving humanity's biggest challenge/working on a grand mission.

Status is still based on where you live, whether you own a condo/car etc. I sense people are very hesitant to take risks.

With your connection & experience you could help with that.
