If you ever worked in an organization with entrenched bureaucracy that has lost touch with the time & has no vision for the future, you will understand how smart and brave was what Sama did.
1.) Sometimes boards evolves beyond the leadership, then you rightfully fire the leadership, CEO.
2.) Sometimes organizations evolve past the board, then you rightfully need a new board.
This was definitely the later scenario. No one will go down easily. However, these are the conflicts that evolve the organizations.

Read @telmudic below. He describe the situation from perspective of a change leader - and it is valid. It can be quite frustrating. Many of us have felt it.
But the board was doing their karma [following the non-profit constitution] and being true to their beliefs as advise in Bhagvat Gita.
That is how the darwinian evolution of the enterprise works. When you see it from close, you see bloodthirsty individuals plotting against one another.
But, if you see it from a distance, you see the garden of humanity growing & spreading. This time to the solar system and then to the galaxy and beyond.
To move forward is human, to forgive is divine.
