I truly can't comprehend people who like the non-native tabs, search interface, etc. that some other terminals have (won't call them out directly). They're great terminals with an awful UI. But, this is subjective, and I'm happy people have choice. Not my tempo, though.

I love the native UI we came up with for key tables and key sequences too. Unapologetically native UI in a cross-platform app was what originally thrust me into working on Ghostty.

Here's a short video (4m) that goes into more detail on how "vim mode" works in Ghostty and the multitude of features that are composed together to make it all work. This showcases how powerful Ghostty's keybinding system is getting! And don't worry, I plan on shipping a built-in "vim mode" table (unbound by default) so you can bind an opinionated "vim mode" with a single line in your config. But, if you want to modify it in any way, that's completely possible because this all works via standard config.

Ghostty now has a keybinding system powerful enough to enable a "vim mode." This is built by composing multiple Ghostty features together, meaning you can create any modes you want (emacs, tmux, whatever). We'll keep adding more bindings to make these even more powerful! The config:

She opened a box car and a million hole punch shavings came out and she goes "daddy what's that?" I used to use hole-punched paper as "cargo." At some point in my childhood, I loaded them for one last trip, unbeknownst to me my own daughter would rediscover them 30 years later.

Uncovered some of my childhood model train sets and my daughter is loving it (2y). It's a totally unique feeling watching my own child play with a set of toys I played with when I was only a little older than her, too. She's been so good about being gentle with them, too.
