So this just happened: Received a utility bill for the home we've occupied 20+ years. No one else ever lived here. Our building is small and no real volume of renters.

Except -- bill was a different name at our address with our service address.

Identity theft red flag. At least.

Except @SEACityLight says identity verification required to start service.

Called SCL. They abruptly told me "just return to post office you received the wrong mail". They are so anxious to kick me off the call I have to interrupt the goodbye to repeat "This letter is addressed to our place with a service address our place and a different name. It just happened".

"Well, did you rent your place out?" No.

"Oh it is just a mistake".

Me: How can you start new service and bill at an address without a discontinuation notice? I'm also looking at a letter I received for the same person at our address regarding a SCL release of information to the "landlord" at this address. Doesn't that seem like a problem?

"No. I will will just close that other account?"

"Aren't you interested in how someone opened up a new account at an old service address? Don't you need ID verification?"

"No...you'd be surprised how often that happens."

Also below, Seattle City Light's two factor authentication policy. Here's a link to a recent forum on cyber and City Gov. https://t.co/awpg9K6h54

As is common knowledge amongst questionable actors, a power bill is a key to gaining a driver's license and often the first step in identity theft.

[Anthropic

All the girls are wanting Broncos right now. It's definitely a thing. My oldest went through a Bronco phase (her cousin got one), but ended up wanting a Tacoma (which she wrecked after 10 days by taking a turn too fast & driving into a fence but she's ok tho I'm still mad...)
