When vetting your social hire, ask these questions:

- what’s your philosophy behind building a social account (if they don’t have one then bad sign)

- tell me about a social crisis you encountered and exactly what you did to overcome it (or what the outcome was)

- give me one company who you think does a great job at social. What do they do well? If you ran social for them, what would you change?

- what do you think most company accounts fail at doing when it comes to their brand social presence?

- show me 3 social posts that you think are representative of your best work — then break down why they did well (or why you believe them to be good)

- what’s your general community management strategy? How do you engage with customers?

- in past social roles, what exactly were you responsible for, who did you report to in the marketing department, and what was the make up of the team (this is where you want to verify that they actually owned the accounts va playing a 10% role in content creation or supporting the main person who led the show)

I sometimes wonder about this too. Are current-day billionaires any different than the glorified ones in the past?

Is there an actual difference in charitable intent? Or do we just see more of their actions?

And: how revisionist is our understanding of the old ones?

The essence of great software is the quality of its abstractions. Great abstractions are indefinitely composable and stackable. They become a dependable foundation for future work, future thought.

The best ones are so robust you never have to revisit them -- you can forget them and build forward without ever looking back.

Achieving this is the greatest productivity hack in software engineering. Because the greatest productivity drain is backtracking.

Scale is very fun to play with.

But should not be granted without proper vetting, & training.
