I finally scratched an itch I've had for over 15 years, having satisfied myself at least that "group selection theory" is just a mean field approximation of natural selection applied to large groups of individuals. Bearing this in mind and applying a Radamacher Complexity analysis to a comparison of group and kin selection models of natural selection, it appears that at least some of Nowak, Tarnitas, and (E.O. Wilson)'s claims in 2010 are unsupported. Kin selection models *appear* to be more fundamental as a model of causality. At the same time, there is plenty of room for group selection models is understanding the behavior of... groups.

Perhaps the greatest shortcoming of the present generation of university presidents in the United States is their inside focus on administration, on money-raising, and so on. Yet no other administrator in the large university is free to establish contact with the students who are the university’s “customers.” Alienation of the students from the administration is certainly a major factor in the student unhappiness and unrest

- Peter Drucker, The Effective Executive (1966)

As a lawyer who codes and is deeply engaged with the problem of leveraging AI into providing better legal services, I can tell you that the jury is still out on whether we've overcome Baumol's Cost Disease. But it's a close enough call to be exciting.

Should I write something about how the arguments for and against group selection theory in evolutionary biology can be (at least partly) resolved through considerations of Rademacher Complexity? Does anybody actually care what a non-expert sees here?

Is this the 21st century version of calling the square root of negative one "imaginary" because of its unfamiliarity?
