This is even more true of men than it is of women, in my experience. Many guys have this weird thing where they think nobody sees the shoes, almost like they’re a form of underwear. So you can tell a lot about a man by paying attention to this and to the belt.

A guy will pay $250 for a shirt and $300 for pants, then wear some extremely busted shoes because somehow that’s not part of the fit. And when a guy does try to up the shoe game, the way in which he does it also tells you a lot.

i think it would be a strict pareto upgrade if every arxiv submission also came with an accompanying slides pdf that got rid of the throat clearing and forced you to articulate the central motivation, idea and results in <75 slides

Same. The only time I did was for an internship freshman year of college, never since. I think that was the last time I updated it too.
