Everyone who is mad about Micron ending the Crucial brand is not seeing that this is the beginning of a shift away from DRAM entirely towards HBM.
New computers soon will be unified HBM4 with a GPU and CPU.
This is almost certainly why NVIDIA partnered with Intel.
It will be amazing for both games and AI running locally.

The speed and latency of "traditional" DRAM slots became the barrier to faster systems, memory chips need to be as physically close to the CPU/GPU as possible to support higher bandwidth.

Hopefully it doesn't happen in a way that kills the ability to build your own desktop, but that is certainly possible
