maybe people want to be a bit stupider! i think there is some peace in ignorance for a moment, but if it can’t be in moderation then that’s where things get dicey. few times a year, sure i used to STRESS hard about all events thinking i couldn’t touch the poison of alcohol but really i could have a drink and enjoy my time the 2 times i go out a year if i want and still love my life outside of that drink, and be healthy. i probably hurt my own mental health more by calling it poison for years and thinking it is some evil juice hating if someone were to pressure me in any way, and subjecting myself to not having fun in my own accord the more i think about it the less i worry about having a drink few times a year, life moves on in my case as its very rare and can be nice to be dumber for an hour or two (stop overthinking)
