On the object level, I've observed that the Chinese have been moving from tankie takes like “Israel is the pawn of the US/Anglo empire exploiting resources in Gaza” to Mearsh-style “Israeli lobby” to “Jews run the US”. Largely that's just more awareness of Western discourses.

I still think there's a ton of overlap there in the Venn diagram of "is willing to complain a bit about golf course water use" and "is spreading howlers about AI datacenter water use." There's some horseshoe theory cultural thing at work here that I can't quite put my finger on.

I think this is right. People who are cheesed about golf courses are legitimately irritated by the water waste. But people RTing AI datacenter water use lies into my feed are just mad about AI.
