If you're using Colab and you feel like training your model on GPU is slow, switch to the TPU runtime and tune the "steps_per_execution" parameter in model.compile() (higher = more work being done on device before moving back to host RAM) Can often see a 4-5x speedup.

I don't think this really matters to the PC ecosystem. This price point isn't where their money is these days. Still... The core challenge is no single PC maker has the scale purchasing power to compete on screens, batteries, or even volume discounts with Intel/QC. They lack scale in materials for cases. Their business model focuses on supplier and price point diversity which lead to larger/heavier devices (in order to swap components). And so on. There's literally no way to compete on price+quality if you make PCs. These were all factors that led to building Surface. The hope was to invest way upstream—in particular in ARM, touch, and case materials—and to ultimately be a provider for OEMs. This was not something ever achieved but was meant to get ahead of this inevitability: a single supplier with high quality and scale greater than the PC ecosystem.
