For Pearl Harbor Day, a brief commentary on a speculative future infamy: > Imagine: China deploys hundreds of thousands of autonomous drones in the air, on the sea, and under the water—all armed with explosive warheads or small missiles. These machines descend in a swarm toward military installations on Taiwan and nearby US bases, and over the course of a few hours, a single robotic blitzkrieg overwhelms the US Pacific force before it can even begin to fight back. It is entrenched as a colloquial definition, but a Blitzkrieg is not simply synonymous with "rapid, overwhelming attack". Rather, it is better identified with aggressive maneuver warfare which quickly captures large swathes of territory while rendering enemy forces ineffective, more significantly due to changes in relative position, and disruption of supply lines, than corporeal destruction. The annihilation of disrupted units en masse after maneuver has encircled them is a Kesselschlacht or cauldron battle; a drone swarm scenario of the type described is a (long range) saturation strike. Putting one 155mm shell in every 10m x 10m grid square covering a city may satisfactorily eliminate the enemy, but it will not have been acheived by Blitzkrieg, or any indeed any other maneuver, but by fire.
